alien species

  By Pamela Statz

When the manuscript for The Golden One was completed, artist Terryl Whitlatch was asked to create detailed visuals for the creatures of the Alien Chronicles Trilogy. Terryl has worked for the Lucas Companies since 1994 and is currently the creature designer for Star Wars: Episode I, so she is well versed in the creation of amazing and fantastic alien species.

It takes Terryl about seven to eight days to create art for each creature. She does several concept sketches and a full-color acrylic painting. "For most other work I do, I don't have the luxury of doing a painting." She uses acrylic paints because "you can paint over your mistakes which is good when you're under a deadline."

The painting of Ampris appears on the back cover of part one of the Alien Chroncles. Watch for Terryl's cover art on parts two and three.
